Łódź — a city of industrial roots and modern spaces

Łódź is a city built on factories. Even in the 19th century, the rhythm of everyday life was set here by looms, chimneys and the clatter of machines, and life was carried on in the shadow of large factories. Today, the same brick that was once a symbol of hard work and industry is becoming the foundation of new spaces — places of culture, business and meetings. Former halls and townhouses gain a second life, which inspire and add new energy to the city.

Poznań Palace — a symbol of the Fabrykance of Łódź

It is impossible to talk about Łódź without mentioning the Poznań Palace — sometimes called the “Łódź Louvre”. This impressive building at Ogrodowa Street shows the scale and scale of what a great power the textile industry once was.
It was built between 1877 and 1888 by Izrael Poznański, one of the most important manufacturers of 19th century Łódź, who started with a modest weaving shop and shop, and built one of the largest cotton empires in Poland. The palace, also known as the “Louvre of Lodz”, was the center of its vast factory complex, which also included houses for workers, a school, a hospital and other public facilities, forming a kind of factory district in the city UML Lodz.
Between 1901 and 1903, the palace underwent a major reconstruction, giving it its current neo-baroque appearance. The reconstruction project was developed by Adolf Zeligson, and the investment was carried out by the sons of Izrael Poznański: Ignacy, Maurycy, Karol and Herman museum-lodz.pl.
After World War II, the palace was the seat of various institutions, and since 1975 it houses the Museum of the City of Łódź. The building itself has become a symbol of both the former power and a new look at heritage — open, educational and accessible to residents and people visiting the city. modernizationaroku.org.pl.

Manufaktura — modern life on industrial foundations

When the Manufaktura opened in 2006, Łódź began to change in the eyes of residents and tourists. The former Poznań factory complex has become a center of trade, culture and entertainment. It is no longer just a symbol of successful revitalization, but above all proof that a modern center can be built on historical foundations, a vibrant life, which becomes a showcase of modern Łódź. Thanks to such initiatives, Łódź began to vibrate with new energy — little by little revitalizing other buildings and giving new meaning to the places that once defined this city.

Kamienica pod Gutenberg — Gallery Address and registered office of the Association of Polish Plastic Artists

Another unique place is the Tenement under the name Gutenberg at Piotrkowska 86. It is a characteristic building with a bay window, a figure of Gutenberg and medallions of outstanding printers. In the 20th century it housed the Adresse Gallery and the headquarters of the Association of Polish Plastic Artists. The tenement house reminds that Łódź is not only an industry and business, but also an artistic tradition that has been contributing to its identity for years.
The tenement house near Gutenberg, located at 86 Piotrkowska Street in Łódź, is one of the most beautiful and characteristic buildings in the city. Built between 1893 and 1896 by the printer Jan Petersilge, it was the headquarters of the first Łódź newspaper “Lodzer Zeitung”. Its name comes from the figure of Jan Gutenberg — the inventor of printing — placed in a bay window niche on the front facade. Lodz Travel
The building is distinguished by its eclectic architecture, combining elements of the Neo-Gothic, Neo-Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau. The facade is richly decorated with plant ornaments, medallions with portraits of the inventors of printing and sculptures of dragons. In 2011, the townhouse underwent a major renovation, restoring its original splendor and revealing additional decorations such as garlands with plant motifs. UML Lodz
After the Second World War, the building housed the International Press and Book Club, and in the years 1972—1973 the Adres Gallery operated in the basement, run by the Association of Polish Plastic Artists (ZPAP). Currently, the tenement house houses the Łódź Branch of the ZPAP, which runs the gallery “Na Piętrze”. This gallery is a place for exhibitions of painting, graphics, sculpture and artistic jewelry, promoting the work of both recognized artists and young artists. baedekerlodz.blogspot.com
The tenement house under Gutenberg is not only an architectural monument, but also a living space of culture and art. Its history, location in the heart of Łódź and artistic activity make it a place that connects the past with the present, creating a unique atmosphere of meetings, creativity and community.
We refer to it precisely because of this special bond between history and art. Like the Gutenberg tenement house, Stara Drukarnia combines industrial heritage and culture, creating a space where historic walls make way for modern spaces full of life, art and innovative projects.

Stara Drukarnia — from industry to art and business

The building at 130 Gdańska Street served as a military printing house for years. Today, after a thorough revitalization, the Stara Drukarnia is an example of how old spaces can gain a second life — modern, functional and inspiring. It is an office complex where history is harmoniously combined with modern finishes and solutions that promote effective work in comfortable interiors.
However, Stara Drukarnia is much more than an office building. It is a space open to the local community and art. In the courtyard and in the interiors of our office building, internal events, exhibitions and vernissages are regularly held. Stara Drukarnia supports young artists through the organization of artistic events. During such meetings, artists can show their work. Events are free and accessible to everyone. We want people visiting Stara Drukarnia to be able to experience art, interpret it and return to us with each subsequent change of arrangement. We want art to become a part of everyday life for our local community. Thanks to this, the Stara Drukarnia becomes a place of dialogue — between business, culture and the local community.
The interiors of the building delight with consistency and well-thought-out ergonomics. Industrial elements and historic brick create a unique atmosphere, while modern lighting and open spaces make every tenant and employee feel just right here. Today, the comfort of work and the satisfaction of the teams are the key to the development of any company. Stara Drukarnia was designed so that companies could develop in perfect conditions, and the teams working here could find inspiration by getting acquainted with art.
Stara Drukarnia is also a community. Openness to culture, joint events and exchange of experiences make Stara Drukarnia a sense of prestige and uniqueness — both for companies that work here and for people participating in artistic or business events. It is a place where the history of the industry meets a modern approach to work, team and cooperation with tenants.

The new role of historical spaces

Łódź has been consistently revitalizing its monuments and industrial heritage for years. Factories become hotels, shopping malls grow into weaving halls, and office buildings and spaces promoting the artcoworking are housed in former plants. This is proof that the city is constantly looking for a new formula — with respect for history, but with the contemporary needs of residents and entrepreneurs in mind.
Stara Drukarnia fits into this story. It is a place that combines past and future, history and modernity, business and art. It is a space where you can work, develop, create and experience.
