Opening ceremony of Tomasz Płuciennik — an evening in oriental style

On a warm August evening, Stara Drukarnia — an office building in the heart of Łódź, located right next to Piotrkowska Street — was once again filled with conversations and people who value culture and art. On August 7, the opening of Tomasz Płuciennik's photographic exhibition “Asia — frames from the perspective of the street” took place here, which moved our guests to a lively, colorful atmosphere vibrant streets of Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.

How did it start?

The history of this exhibition shows that success is often born from meeting the right people. That's what Maciej Walczak, curator of the exhibition, introduced Tomasz Płuciennik to Olga Jakubowicz — manager of the Stara Drukarnia. This meeting became the beginning of an extraordinary artistic journey.
Tom is not a professional photographer. Every day he works in a completely different industry, and photography is his passion, a way to stop moments and discover the beauty of everyday life. At first he doubted whether his pictures were suitable for the exhibition. However, he was convinced and — as the August evening showed — it was a great decision.
The whole thing was possible thanks to the support of our partners — Sztuka Nadziei and WAV 3. It's proof that when fantastic people join forces, truly unique things are created.

Courage that inspires

Tomasz's story is an example of the fact that passion should be shared — even if you are not an artist with a diploma or many years of experience. The opening showed that it is not necessary to be a professional photographer to move the emotions of the audience. However, it takes courage to open up to others and present what is unique about us.
This evening was proof that breaking your own barriers can lead to extraordinary experiences. Tomasz, despite his initial doubts, shared his view of the world through his staff. As a result, an event was created that will remain in the memory of the participants for a long time. It is also a message for all those who have their passions and are still hesitant to show them: it is worth trying, because art — even that which stems from passion — can open hearts and inspire others.

Street photography in a new light

“Asia — shots from the perspective of the street” is a project that shows the daily life of the inhabitants of Southeast Asia. Thomas captured ordinary moments that, in his lens, become full of magic and meaning. Each frame attracts attention with detail, play of light or composition, and the ordinariness of the situation acquires extraordinary depth. It is a photographic journey that allows you to see the beauty of everyday moments and reminds you how valuable it is to observe the world closely.
All thanks to Tomasz's unique sensitivity and sense of the moment. These photographs would not have been made if it were not for the openness and cordiality of the people he met there. It is not the cuisine or art that makes Asia so special. It is the openness and joy of the inhabitants, who exude the energy of everyday moments. It is this natural harmony in apparent chaos that Tomasz Płuciennik shows in his shots.

Stara Drukarnia — a space for art and people

Stara Drukarnia has been combining office activities with the promotion of art and Łódź artists for years. Temporary exhibitions, such as Tomasz's works, allow city dwellers and tourists to discover new perspectives and experience art in an intimate, inspiring environment. It is a place where enthusiasts and amateurs meet, where art becomes an excuse to talk and exchange experiences.
Thursday's vernissage was not the only moment when you could see Tomasz's photographs — the exhibition remains open to visitors until the end of September, from 9:00 to 19:00. It can also be watched on weekends and is completely free. We invite you to visit Stara Drukarnia. This is a good time to slow down for a while and immerse yourself in Asian everyday life.
